Update on crime watch information as it relates to Plano PD

Posted on: March 4, 2015 8:10 am

March 3, 2015

I want to update you on how our DNE Crime Watch has been organized so all of you will understand how a Neighborhood Crime Watch works.

LISA BLOOMFIELD, OUR DNE HOA TREASURER IS OUR NEIGHBORHOOD CRIME WATCH COORDINATOR/CAPTAIN.

LISA’S CONTACT INFORMATION IS  treasurer@dnehoa.org

Lisa has registered with the Plano Police Department and will receive direct alerts and or communications from the Plano Police Department about any issue the PPD wants to alert the DNE neighborhood to. Roberta Clark, our DNE HOA secretary, will then send that information out to the neighborhood via your email. The email will say PLANO POLICE DEPARTMENT CRIME WATCH BULLETIN  so you will know the information has come directly from the Plano Police Department.

In the hopefully unlikely event you have had a burglary of your home, vehicle or property or any other issue or suspicious event AND you HAVE contacted the Plano Police Department DIRECTLY and the PPD HAS  been to your home to investigate and you want to inform our neighborhood about it, please contact Lisa and the information will be emailed to the neighborhood. We want our neighborhood to be aware of as many crime related issues as possible but we also want to make sure all Crime Watch reports have been verified by the Plano Police Dept.

It is important for you to know when you receive a PLANO POLICE DEPARTMENT CRIME WATCH BULLETIN email, the information is either directly from the Plano Police Department or it is about an individual neighbor’s issue who has had DIRECT contact with the Plano Police Department.

As you already know, Lisa is contacting our neighborhood volunteers who are our neighborhood block captains and they will be contacting you to make sure we have your email. Even though you are receiving emails, the crime watch volunteers will not know this so let the volunteer know you are already on the list. Please let your neighbors know someone may be knocking on their door and asking for their email for the dnehoa.org website. Remember, the more “eyes and ears” we have in our neighborhood, the safer it will be. By the way, we do NOT share the email addresses with anyone!

AGAIN, FOR ALL CRIME WATCH RELATED ISSUES PLEASE CONTACT OUR DNE CRIME WATCH COORDINATOR/CAPTAIN LISA BLOOMFIELD AT: treasurer@dnehoa.org

For those who missed our CRIME WATCH MEETING in February, Officer Christopher Bianez from the Plano Police Department recommended ways to harden your home by strengthening doors, windows and garage doors. Information about that is on the dnehoa.org website under the Crime Watch tab.

I want to remind you of the actions the Plano Police Department recommends you take to make your home safer:

  1. Keep your doors and windows locked.
  2. DON’T leave your garage door open – Officer Bianez said there were 1000 burglaries in Plano last year and 500 of them would NOT have happened if the victim’s garage door had been closed! It only takes seconds for someone to steal something from your garage OR gain access into your home through your garage door.
  3. Park your cars in the garage if possible.
  4. DON’T open your door to strangers. Officer Bianez said if someone knocks at our door the PPD recommends you approach the door WITHOUT opening it and say loudly ”I’ll get it” or “Who is it” to let the person at the door know someone is home. DON’T open your door to strangers!
  5. Leave outside lights on at night, many people use motion sensors.
  6. DON’T leave your valuables in clear view day or night in your home or vehicle.
  7. Close your blinds at night.
  8. If you see someone or something suspicious CALL 911. The PPD recommends you DON’T go outside to investigate yourself..stay in the safety of your home and CALL 911!

Crime watch block captains may be knocking on your door

Posted on: February 24, 2015 11:21 pm

Crime Watch Teams Are Forming!!

Lisa Bloomfield is our Crime Watch Coordinator and she will be contacting our neighborhood volunteers who signed up to be block captains and they will be contacting you to make sure we have your email.

Even though you are receiving emails, the crime watch volunteers may not know this so let the volunteer know you are already receiving our emails. Please let your neighbors know someone may be knocking and asking for their email so we can send emails from the dnehoa.org website.  In addition to the home page you can get information by going directly to the CrimeWatch Page.

Remember, the more “eyes and ears” we have in our neighborhood, the safer it will be. By the way, we do NOT share the emails with anyone! We will be providing more information about the crime watch program as it is available.  Email is the fastest way to get information out to everyone.

The crime watch function is beneficial for everyone even if you don’t like the idea of a homeowners’ association and we appreciate your cooperation.

Great Crime Watch Meeting Turnout

Posted on: February 5, 2015 1:19 pm

Thank you to Officer Christopher Bianez from the Plano Police Department for doing such a great job of helping our neighborhood to re-activate our Crime Watch! Thank you also to the many neighbors and neighborhood volunteers who attended our meeting. Officer Bianez said it was the best attended Neighborhood Crime Watch meeting he had ever held!!

We will keep the neighborhood and volunteers informed as we get organized. With your help, we look forward to reaching our goal of making our Dallas North Estates Neighborhood the SAFEST Neighborhood in Plano!

Crime Watch ALERT!

Posted on: January 16, 2015 3:39 pm

DNE HOA Crime Watch Alert!!!!!ALERT!!!!

SPECIAL ALERT to those who live on or near the CREEKS on WESTWOOD, WESTBROOK and SPRINGBROOK east of Custer and VALLEY CREEK west of Custer or BACK UP to OFFICE BUILDINGS OR OPEN FIELDS ALONG PLANO PARKWAY

Wednesday night a robbery occurred in the early morning hours in a nearby neighborhood. The homeowner’s backyard backs up to the creek and the burglar broke in through the back doors with the alarm on and stole the homeowner’s handbag. The handbag was visible from the yard through the doors that did not have closed draperies. The homeowner said the whole thing happened within minutes and by the time they got out of bed the criminal was gone. The glass was broken and the alarm was blasting and this did not stop the criminal.

The Plano Police think there may be people walking in the creeks at night. They appear to to looking for a crime of opportunity and are brazen. That means DO NOT LEAVE YOUR VALUABLES IN CLEAR VIEW DAY OR NIGHT! Please close your blinds at night and if you have an alarm…use it!!

There ARE people watching us to see when we come and go and looking for an opportunity to do a malicious act. DON’T give them that opportunity!!

Remember these are actions you can take to be safe:

  1. Keep your doors and windows locked.
  2. Don’t leave your garage door open.
  3. If possible, park your cars in the garage.
  4. At night keep outside lights on if possible..many people use motion sensors.
  5. DON’T open your door to strangers.
  6. If you have an alarm..USE IT!
  7. If you see someone or something suspicious call 911

Remember our CrIme Watch Meeting is:

Tues. Feb. 3, 2015
Messiah Lutheran Church
1801- W. Plano Pkwy
Plano, 75075

Please tell your neighbors about the meeting and to sign up on the website for future emails if they have not done so.

If you have any questions please email me at president@dnehoa.org.

Have a safe January and I look forward to seeing you at our meeting!

PS from the webmaster:  The email list is tracked by the email address.  If you enter an email address which is different than the one you’ve previously used, you will receive emails twice.

If you are already on the list and want to be added to the crime watch emails, enter the information and email as it is in our email database, click “yes” on the email box and submit.  Your information should be updated. Updated information does not generate a confirmation email.  New emails which don’t exist in our database will receive a confirmation email before adding you to the list.

If the email you gave us is no longer a valid email address, please complete the form again since the old email will be removed after it is rejected when we send a new email.

If you have questions about whether or not your email is in the database, please email mail@dnehoa.org and I can answer your questions.

Start-Up Crime Watch Meeting

Posted on: January 8, 2015 11:22 pm

DNE HOA Crime Watch MeetingThere have been requests to re-start the Neighborhood Crime Watch program for our neighborhood.  The program requires a lot of volunteers to be effective.

The meeting is set for February 3, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church.  We will be in the same rooms we were in for the zoning meetings (Administration Building).

A successful crime watch program requires volunteers.  After the Police Department presents their program, everyone will have a better idea of what is required.

The city has supplied some information.  Links are posted on the Crime Watch page and below:

DNEHOA Crimewatch Cupdate

Happy Holidays!

As you might have heard or read there have been burglaries in Plano and surrounding cities as well as in our neighborhood. This is a good time to reactivate the Neighborhood Crime Watch. If there is neighborhood interest in doing so, I will contact the Plano Police Department to schedule a meeting in January to explain what is needed. Please email me at president@dnehoa.org. if you are interested. We will need neighborhood volunteers from all different parts of our neighborhood.

At this time there are some actions you can take to be safe. The Plano Police Department recommends that you:

  1. Lock your doors and windows
  2. Don’t leave the garage door open
  3. If possible, Park your cars in the garage
  4. Do NOT open your door to strangers
  5. If you see someone in the neighborhood that appears to be suspicious, call 911.

If you need more information about safety tips, check out our HOA website dnehoa.org under the crime watch tab.

Wishing All of You very Happy and Safe Holidays!
